Ek Pahal Shiksha Samiti: Empowering Education for Underprivileged
Children Founding and MissionEk Pahal is
a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) founded and managed by Vivek Kumar Dubey,
M.Sc., B. Ed. The organization is dedicated to providing educational
opportunities to children living in slums (jhuggi jhopadi) who are often
excluded from the formal educational system and are mainly involved in begging
and trash picking. The primary goal of Ek Pahal is to empower these students
through education and to combat child labor. Educational Outreach and CentersEk Pahal
operates 24 educational centers, serving approximately 1,000 students. These
centers are strategically located to reach children in various underserved
areas:
Vivekanand Center
Bhagat Singh Center
Azad Center
Kalam Center
Rani Lakshmibai Center
Subhas Babu Center-1
Subhas Babu Center-2
Major Dhyanchand Sports Center
Lal Bahadur Shastri Center
Kshtrapati Shivaji Center
Sardar Patel Center
Maharana Pratap Center
Dr. Kalam Science Lab
Ramanujan Center
Shakuntala Devi Computer Lab
Most centers are situated near the old Yamuna Bridge, with two located
near Minto Park, Prayagraj, and the remainder in Sankargarh. Innovative Teaching MethodsEk Pahal
employs a unique teaching model where 49 "Bal Shikshaks" (young
teachers) teach their younger siblings and peers as a form of revision for
their own studies. This peer-teaching approach not only reinforces the Bal
Shikshaks' own knowledge but also fosters a sense of responsibility and
community among the students. Curriculum and SubjectsThe
curriculum at Ek Pahal includes a comprehensive range of subjects:
Hindi
Science
Mathematics
English
Social Science
Computer Science
This holistic approach ensures that students receive a well-rounded
education, preparing them for future academic and professional pursuits. Success
Stories and Impact Ek Pahal has made significant strides in changing the educational
landscape for children in slums. Notably, four girls from these communities
have graduated from the University of Allahabad with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)
degree and are currently pursuing their Master of Arts (M.A.). This achievement
is particularly remarkable in a societal context where no students had
previously passed the 10+2 level with mathematics. These graduates are now
employed and contribute financially to Ek Pahal, creating a cycle of
empowerment and giving back. Recognition and SupportEk Pahal
Shiksha Samiti is recognized and certified by the Income Tax Department with
12A, 80G, and CSR-1 certificates, which acknowledge its credibility and
eligibility for tax-exempt donations. The organization also receives support
from Physics Wallah, enhancing its resources and outreach capabilities. Conclusion Ek Pahal Shiksha Samiti stands as a beacon of hope and progress for
underprivileged children in Prayagraj. By providing quality education and
fostering a supportive community, Ek Pahal is transforming lives and paving the
